Last week, the Ibiza Film Commission participated in the Málaga Film Festival, a key event for the Spanish audiovisual sector. It was a unique opportunity to promote Balearic talent, strengthen connections, and highlight Ibiza as a premier filming location.
From the beginning of the festival, the agenda was filled with strategic meetings and unforgettable screenings. Thanks to the exclusive space provided by the ICIB, representatives from the Film Commissions of Ibiza, Menorca, and Mallorca gathered and worked together to promote Balearic cinema. This space became a key meeting point for producers, filmmakers, and other industry professionals.
One of the standout moments was the screening of the documentary Mujer, papel y tijera, produced by Ibiza native Carmen Vidal, who had the opportunity to share her work with the festival audience. Her presence showcased the island’s talent and the creative richness emerging from the Balearic Islands.
Additionally, attendance at Juan Manuel Guimerans’ presentation on the impact of Spain Film Commission in transforming the audiovisual sector provided valuable insights. This in-depth analysis reaffirmed the importance of Film Commissions in the industry’s development and Spain’s appeal as a filming destination.
Another special moment was the group photograph with the Balearic audiovisual sector at the Málaga Film Festival. This symbolic gesture reinforced the unity and commitment of all professionals working toward the growth of cinema in the islands.
Furthermore, the screening of Suerte de pinos, by Lorena Muñoz, within the Official Section of Documentary – Feature Films, was a pleasure to attend. This feature captivated audiences and demonstrated the high quality of contemporary documentary filmmaking. It is also a co-production of Ibiza-based producer Sebastián Feldman’s production company Cine Asako.
To conclude the festival participation, the screening of the short film Hoy no es siempre was enjoyed. Directed by Carmen Vidal and co-produced by Pauxa Films and Ana Vide, with Ana Vide and Marc Cloret as protagonists, this work was sponsored by the Ibiza Film Commission, reaffirming its commitment to local audiovisual production.
It was an intense week, full of meetings, learning, and inspiration. Presence at the Málaga Film Festival made it possible to represent Ibiza at one of Spain’s most important film events, reaffirming the commitment to the audiovisual sector and promoting the island as an ideal filming destination.
