The Es Baluard Museum of Palma hosted an emotional celebration on the occasion of the International Day of Multiple Sclerosisin which the Ibizan short film “Hoy no es siempre” (“Today is not always”) was presented. “Today is not always”a work full of sensitivity that has managed to put voice, face and soul to a disease that affects thousands of people around the world.
The event, entitled “Navigating Multiple Sclerosis Together”.was presented by the Galician actress Cristina Maró and was held in the Aljub hall, with the presence of prominent authorities and figures from the cultural, health and social fields. One of the most touching moments of the day was the intervention of the president of the Govern, Marga Prohenswho publicly shared new reflections on his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, revealed in December 2023. After the screening of the short film -premiered at the Pereyra Theater in Ibiza-, Prohens spoke “open-heartedly” about the personal and media impact of his statements:
“To my 19-year-old self, when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I would tell her not to be afraid,” she expressed visibly moved.
The short film “Hoy no es siempre” is the result of the union and strength of three Ibizan women: Ana Videactress, ambassador of Adlib Fashion and interpreter and co-producer of the short film; Ana Olivia Fiolexecutive producer from Pauxa Films; and screenwriter and director Carmen Vidalwho was inspired by the true story of the singer-songwriter Malén Baraccoalso present at the event. The main character of the short film -an Adlib Fashion designer- reflects in a symbolic and visual way the progressive loss of sensitivity and motor control, in a moving metaphor about creativity, identity and inner struggle.
The initial impetus for the project came from the friendship between Ana Vide, Ana Olivia Fiol and Estefania Serradiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 13, whose story was the emotional engine of this initiative.
The event also included a colloquium with first-person testimonials, such as those from Raquel Martinezfigure skater, and Isabel GayáPresident of the Balearic Association of Multiple Sclerosis. In addition, intervened the Dr. Carmen Calles a neurologist at the Multiple Sclerosis Unit of the Hospital Son Espases, providing a fundamental medical vision. The round table was moderated by Gabriel Rojodeputy director of the Balearic Health Service and creator of the project Yes With Cancer.
On behalf of the Government, the following ministers attended the event Manuela García (Health), Catalina Cirer (Families and Social Affairs) and the councilor José Luis Mateo (Housing, Territory and Mobility). Representing the Consell d’Eivissawere present María Fajarnés, Councillor for Economic Promotion, and Sara Ramón, councilor of Culture.
A memorable event that has united institutions, creators, patients and health professionals around a common cause: to give visibility, empathy and hope to those living with Multiple Sclerosis.
